Kicks at 16 Weeks.
20 May 2008 - 1:11 p.m.

I had a bit of a nasty weekend healthwise but that appears to be a little better this week. I had been feeling very dizzy and light headed and was rather sick Sunday.

I still have the odd light headed spell but no where near as bad as it was. I was getting quite worried about diabetes, blood pressure and other silly things. However, I am happy to say it is now more like a feeling of sleep deprevation.

I've had all my blood tests now so if there is anything of concern, I know I will be notified.

I woke up this morning and the sun was shining beautifully bright. I laid in bed for a while expecting my alarm to soon go off to get Matthew ready for nursery. When it didn't, I checked my mobile phone to discover it wasn't quite 7am. I felt like I'd been awake ages.

Yesterday I went and collected a whole bag of pregnancy magazines that someone had advertised on freecycle. I must have got a good 30 magazines for the sake of a 5 minute car journey.

I went to bed and read for a little while and as if on cue, Pooh gave me the BIGGEST kick. It's the most significant move I'd felt until then. But it was definitely a strong jab of some kind. This morning I experienced it another 3 or 4 times at least. It is a lovely little feeling.

I can't help it but when I am in bed I do prod baby about a bit to get him/her to "perform". It's just fun. :)

So today I hit 16 weeks, thats 4 months in now. It's great. I am definitely expanding outwards now though I still look more fat than pregnant.

Week 16

Your baby is now about 15cm long.

Your baby now gets the hiccups, but since they have fluid instead of air in the trachea they don’t make any sound.

They also like to play, by pulling and tugging and squeezing on the umbilical cord.

The baby’s legs are beginning to grow longer than the arms now and the movement of all of the baby’s limbs is becoming more coordinated. The eyes have reached their final destination on the head and are no longer on the sides of the face.

Usually between 16 and 20 weeks you’ll begin to feel the baby moving about. At first the movement may seem like butterflies in your stomach or gas bubbles. This may be earlier in second and later pregnancies.
