current - archives - profile - notes -main diary - host 24 weeks This weekend, we had another first. Bf felt the little one move for the first time. We were in bed on Sunday night and he gave belly a little rub and before he had a chance to move his hand away, got his hand kicked in response. "Wow,I felt that!" was all he said as I didn't need to prompt that I had had a rather large prod. He's really quite a quiet one over the baby but you can tell he is excited and really proud to be a dad. I know most men don't show emotions but you know it's good when the first thing he wants to do when his friends visit is to get out the new buggy set and do a little demo. I can see him being quite a hands on daddy. :) We are now at week 24 and I am really feeling on top of the world. So in short week 24 means: Baby gains about 6 ounces this week. The weight is in muscle, bone mass and organs. His body begins to fill out with his appearance increasingly becoming more like a newborn. Taste buds begin to form. If mom drinks something strange or bitter, baby may be observed showing his distaste. Little creases have appeared on his palms. The muscular coordination of his hands has improved as he sucks his thumb. Over the next seven days the sweat glands will be forming in the skin. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" and cells that produce surfactant, a substance that helps the air sacs inflate easily. Baby weighs up to 2lb by the end of this week and is approx 30cm long. Back again in a couple of days as I have an antenatal appointment coming up on Thursday with my GP.
