A BIG sorting out operation

This weekend has been hectic. As well as having days out, bf cleared out the loft for me on Friday. I never realised we had saved so much of Matthews old things.

We dragged out:

  • The old moses basket that didn't look in bad condition at all. It's bright yellow with white stars and looks as good as new after a good wash.

  • The cot mobile that I loved. It's cream with blue and pink teddies. It turns and plays Twinkle Twinkle Little Star as a nice little lullaby tune.
  • The baby play mat Matthew used to love. It's a big very well padded purple elephant with criss cross bendy stands with hanging jungle animals on. All the animals make a different noise and are really brightly coloured.
  • Matthews old favourite cuddly toy giraffe. This was his second one. He had one that my brother bought for him and it went everywhere with him. One day, when Matthew was about 8 months old we walked to the shops and when we got home we realised it was missing. We did try retracing our steps but with no joy. Poor giraffey was gone. My brother is such a big softy that he went out the next day and bought a brand new identical one so it was like it wasn't really missing.
  • We found 4 bin bags full of Matthews old clothes. After a good sort out, we kept all the vests and anything that may be seen as unisex. After taking what I wanted, I rebagged the others into 2 bags and put them up for someone to make use of on Freecycle. Even if this baby turns out to be another boy alot of the stuff will be 8 years old by the time he's big enough to fit into some of the items as it ranged from newborn to 3-4 years. It's always helpful to get free things and if Matthews old things can be of some use to someone else then I'm very happy to help.
  • We also found some sheets for the moses basket and a white satin edged cellular blanket. So that is all baby's bedding done as well.
  • As you can imagine, the washing machine really has put in some overtime this weekend. All the toys I wanted to keep got a clean as well as the clothing and bedding and the fabric of the moses basket.
  • I really did not think that I had so much in storage. I never really planned on more kids. Not in the near future at least. I saw it that I was going to be a single mum for a bit when my marriage collapsed and put all thoughts of any future family to the back of my mind. Yet life doesn't always turn out as you expect it to and things often take a sudden change for the better.

Anyway, jr is very much swishy and swirly inside. Not so much a kicker as Matthew was but it seems very happy to keep twisting and turning most of the time. I had a good 30 minutes at least last night of swirly behaviour as I watched tv after having some soup for tea. My tummy had an almost constant wobble all evening. It was quite amusing to watch.
