Week 15
15 May 2008 12:29 p.m.
Week Fifteen. You may begin to feel some fluttering movements as baby kicks, flails, twists and turns (but don't panic if you don't yet). She can also grasp, squint, frown, grimace and maybe suck her thumb!
Your baby's legs have grown longer than the arms and the body is now longer than the head.
And you'll be happy to note that he is moving those arms and legs often! His skin is very thin -- so thin blood vessel are visible. It's covered by a fine, soft layer of hair called lanugo.
The three tiny bones in his middle ear have begun to harden.Fingernails and toenails are growing.
Eyebrows are beginning to grow and even the hair his head is sprouting. It will probably change color and texture after birth. All this and your little one is an amazing 3.98 inches (10.1cm) long and may weigh 2.47 ounces (70gm).
10cm hey? That's getting big now. :)
I have been feeling the little "flutters" more and more often and I even keep getting hiccups. These generally occur at the oddest of times. Yesterday, everytime I got out of bf's car, I would have a random 1 or 2 hiccups for no real reason.
After looking up hiccups I discovered that hiccups are caused by "involuntary squeezing of the diaphragm" which is where you breathe. The only thing I can put it down to is the sudden getting up after a journey that makes Pooh move suddenly and knock a few things about inside. It is quite funny.
I can't believe that I am at week 15 already. I know I say something similar with every entry but it is astonishing that this pregnancy seems to be going so fast already. I thought the first 6 months seemed quite slow with Matthew but I am only a few days from the 4 months mark.
Today I went to see the nurse for the general blood tests. After a bit of indicisiveness over the last 3 or 4 weeks, I DID have the downs syndrome screening at the same time. Initially I said yes, but whatever the result, it is pretty inconclusive and both me and bf are very much agreed that this is our baby whatever. So I did think, oh heck, we'll skip it. However as I was saying to the nurse, I won't have it, I thought I would as I realised I didn't need a second attack with a needle, I got to fill 4 little tubes in one hit. It's done now so I don't have to spend the next 2 weeks wondering whether I should have got it done or not.
Matthew was with me and he was SO good. He was asking questions and really listening. I think that I may take him along to the next scan, especially as he asked if we would see baby today as I was rolling up my sleeve. Bless him. I think it would be really good for him to see Pooh in action for himself.
He has accepted this baby SO well and is so excited by the idea. The first thing he did as we went into the nurses room was tell her proudly "My mum is having a baby, I am going to be a big brother. But I have to wait for a long time still."
Yet something tells me that the next 25 weeks will be over in the blink of an eye. :)
