Week 27
05 August 2008 - 1:39 p.m.

Baby's lungs and immune system are maturing this week as baby prepares for his grand entrance. If he were born today he would have an 85 percent chance of surviving as his lungs are capable of breathing air (with medical assistance). Other exciting developments:

Baby's done a lot of growing over the past few months. His length has more than doubled in the past 15 weeks! And that's not the only thing growing—baby's brain tissue and neurons are all developing at a rapid pace. His brain waves are now firing away just like those of a newborn baby.

Your baby now weighs in at approximately 14˝ inches and just over 2 pounds

I've just had a lovely filling lunch (of tinned tomatoes on 2 toast if anyone was really wondering what this baby likes) in between diaries so I can now write this entry without feeling starving and having my mind wander too much towards food.

I am constantly grazing on little snacks or so it seems. I can't eat a "normal" size dinner as my bump feels so high up I feel full quickly. Lunch is normally my biggest meal as I not only fill up quickly but find that eating too much in the evening plays havoc with my body.

I am lucky to have avoided heartburn so far. I get it very rarely and it never stops me from sleeping. It's just the lower back that gets it. I lay in bed feeling super heavy and I have always woken with back pain if I eat too much too late even without the added water and little person on board.

Other than a cold this week I've been feeling really good in this pregnancy most of the time and feeling rather happy with the whole process.
